NYFA Current: the Green Issue

In Art as Intervention, a NYFA Current roundtable, Miami-based Xavier Cortada describes how he organized a replanting of mangrove seedlings that had flourished in Florida prior to the housing boom there. For HighWaterLine, Eve Mosher circled New York City, Brooklyn, and Queens, marking the predicted frequent-flood zone on sidewalks and streets while discussing with residents the issue of climate change. In San Jose, California, Susan Cockrell and Ted Purves utilized excess lemons from backyard trees, and with the help of the community made preserves and marmalades for Lemon Everlasting Backyard Battery. Using their specific local footprint, these artists have created innovative projects that engage the public to make positive change.
